Co-design

Objective of co-design is to capture the most common patterns of computation and communication (known as motifs) in the scientific applications. [ECP]

Co-design efforts at LLNL are under following projects:

• ASC Co-design
• ECP Co-design
• PathForward

Some common motifs in scientific computing are (also mirrored by co-design projects under ECP):

• Adaptive Mesh Refinement : In Astrophysics, Combusion study, etc
• Efficient Exascale Discretizations : For FEM
• Online Data Analysis and Reduction at the Exascale : Disk is slow, so many task are going to be/are being performed online
• Particle-Based Applications
• Efficient Implementation of Key Graph Algorithms
• Exascale Machine Learning Technologies
• Proxy Applications
